New Year's Eve!

Today's Training:
90 minutes swim training

I loved today's swim training! It was hard but I learned so much.

So....New Year's Eve, a whole new year ahead! I'm not going to set specific resolutions but I definitely have some goals!
1. Follow my HIM training as closely as possibly--but also not freak if I miss a day. Life happens.
2. Not to self sabotage my goals-train strong and true right up to the race.
3. 95/5 Paleo diet & use myfitnesspal
4. Take each day for what it is & not get caught up in planning/worrying about future events that may or may not happen.

2013 was a good year, 2014 will even be better!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Monday

Today's Training:

6:30am:  60 minute walk
7:30am:  60 minute strength training--new routine specifically for long course triathlon

Today should have been a rest day so I just took it easy.  I go back in to swim tomorrow with my private instructor--half looking forward to it, half dreading it! 90 minutes of hard work.  After swimming I'm going to Target (yaahooooooooo!) When I get home I'll have to jump on the bike to get that done--good day tomorrow!

Sunday Funday!

Today's Training:

10:30am:  45 minute swim out at Blue Lake. Not a great swim.  A bunch of people were there fishing, made it really annoying.

2:00pm:  2:30/45 miles on Ruby.  I averaged 18 mph so very happy with that.  Kept my heart rate where it should be.  At about 2:10 into the ride I was near tears, just wanted to be done, but fought through the urge to stop and put my head down and just kept going.  Completed the ride and felt great.

Tomorrow I should get back to early morning workouts--I really need to get back on a schedule again.  I'd rather get up early and get it done instead of these afternoon workouts.

Saturday's Training

Today's Training:
11:15am 1:30/9 mile run
1:00pm 60 minutes on Ruby

Hood training today. My run was great--kind of cold but beautiful! The snow covered desert has its own beauty for sure. I would have stopped to snap a pic but I was in a good running rhythm and didn't want to stop!

Heading out for some fun tonight and then tomorrow--back on good  nutrition track. I've definitely enjoyed the holiday food--time to get back to clean eating--tomorrow ! Ha!

Friday

Today's Training:
Nothing 😩 Travel day, can't wait to get back to my routine!

Thursday!

Today's Training:
1:30 on Ruby--did a three mile hill section 3 times for some hill repeat work. Kept my cadence above 85 each repeat and kept my heart rate in check.
:36 minute run with Sydney--she ran the full 3.6 mile loop around the island--was very proud of her!

Last day in Havasu--it has been a great time hanging out with my dad and Kathy.  They're so easy to be around.  I think I am going to sign up for the Olympic Tri that I did here last March--just Liv and I will come though.  Jerome and Syd will be gone for softball.

Won't get any training in tomorrow--we'll be in the car all day.  I'm excited to get back home and get back to my schedule.  I have one more social obligation Saturday night and then it's all about the training and good nutrition.

Christmas Day!

Today's Training:
Nothing so far! I'm hoping to get out on my bike later but we'll see. I'm scheduled for a 1:30 ride. There is a great bike path that I can get my ride in on, but we are all going swimming first so I might run out of daylight!
We went out on the boat earlier, Gus loved it! Lake Havasu is such a neat place to be--I'm really glad we came. We had Christmas dinner outside on the deck!

Tuesday Training--Week 2

Today's Training:
60 min/6.5 mile run
The area where my dad lives in Lake Havasu is actually an island. A really nice bike path goes around the whole island so I did my run around the island. Syd came with me on the bike. It was a great run--especially the temperature! Ran in short sleeves and Capri running tights.

Tonight we also went ice skating at an outdoor rink near the London Bridge--it was small but really fun!

Monday Skydiving!

Today's Training:
Off day!

Even though I didn't train today my heart got beating! I watched my 70 year old dad jump out of a plane. In one word--awesome! My dad loved every second of it--he had the biggest smile on his face when he landed! My step mom wasn't quite as enthused when she landed--but it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience! I will definitely do it someday!

I'm trying to post pictures but for some reason I can't--I will keep trying!

Sunday Funday!

Today's Training:
 2:00/39 miles on Ruby
 :45 minutes strength training

Very proud of myself for getting up early and getting this 2 hour ride in plus strength training.  Tomorrow is a day off...yay!  Big day tomorrow--get to watch my dad and step mom go sky diving.  Unbelievable!  I'm so excited to watch the whole thing!

I've decided to pack all my tri gear to take to Lake Havasu.  Temperatures should be around 70 degrees so I should be able to get some good rides and runs in.  The girls are bringing their bikes as well, so I imagine we'll be doing a lot of riding.  I'm hoping Syd will go along on the bike when I run.  We did that a lot last summer in North Dakota--it was a great way to spend time together.

We're opening gifts today--saving some Santa gifts for Christmas in Lake Havasu, however!  I hope the girls love their gifts.  I didn't ask for anything--I have all that I need and couldn't think of thing that I need--besides an endless pool, but not gonna happen until I win the lottery--ha!

Saturday Workout

Today's Training
 1:30 run

Woke up this morning with a terrible headache so I slept in quite a bit!  I knew I still needed to get my run done though...so eventually I got up and did it!  The sucky thing is that I will be getting up super early tomorrow morning to do 2:00 on Ruby.  It's all good though. I'm feeling a little anxious about getting all my training in while we are in Lake Havasu, but I just gotta relax about it and do what I can.

Finally Friday!

Today's Training:
 1:15/24.5 miles on Ruby

Great ride this morning. Felt a little lazy for not doing more--might add in strength training later today.  Again, I'm trying to be easy on myself--this is a hectic time of the year and I need to be OK with occasional lapses in my schedule.

Tomorrow I'll head back to the pool for another 90 minute session.  I know it's going to be hard--my instructor is putting together a real workout full of drills for me.  It'll be good for me.  I can practice them again next week in Lake Havasu at the indoor pool there.

So glad school is out for Christmas break! I think we are all ready for some time away!

Thursday Training

Today's Training:
4:15am:  1:15/23 miles on Ruby
5:30am:  35 min run

Today was a great session.  I kept my heart rate in my target zones while still pushing hard. I'm planning to do a strength workout later after school--but with all the stuff going on after school I'm not sure if I'll get to it.  I'm trying to be easy on myself during this week with all the activities and food--too many treats yesterday so I'm trying to eat well today. BUT...there is a potluck in the lounge with all sorts of goodies.  Good thing is I'm just not feeling sweets today, which is rare!

Good workout today!

Burpee Challenge!

49 of us completed the 30 day Burpee Challenge.  We ended up doing 39,100 burpees! I'm so proud of the kids that stuck with it!

Wednesday's Workout

Today's Training:
4:15am:  70 minute run~5X3:00 incline repeats middle of the run z1&z2 work
 5:45am:  15 minutes of core + burpees

I can't wait to ride tomorrow.  I haven't ridden Ruby since Sunday so I'm looking forward to a longer ride tomorrow.  Yay!

Hair milestone:  my pigtails bounced against my neck today while running--yipee!  Sounds silly but I haven't felt that for over 23 years.  I can't believe I'm actually growing it out!  By the time I race in the HIM I should have a full fledged bouncin' ponytail!

Tuesday Training

Todays Training:
 4:30am:  45 minute run--zone 1 (25) zone 2 (20)
5:15am:  45 minutes strength training--Ball squats, pullups, burpees, core, lunges, biceps

I'm really glad I figured out my zone heart rate targets.  I can see that on both the bike and my running that I'm spending too much time in zone 2.  This week's goal is to get a good feel for longer periods of time in zone 2--that is the endurance zone that I'll need to get through St. George!

Tuesdays will now kick off each training week.  My workouts get progessively harder through the week--which is great because that gives me the weekend for the long workouts but also rest.

Blue Lake Swim 1

Today's Training:
1:50/36 miles on Ruby
:50 swim

First Blue Lake swim of the training schedule done! Before I explain that swim I need to back to yesterday's private instruction. What an eye opener! I have developed some bad swim habits that I need to correct immediately. Malina (instructor) had me do several drills to help fix some if my stroke issues. 90 minutes of drills yesterday was a tough workout! Today I incorporated some of the drills I learned yesterday so I did a mix of drills and distance swimming. I had to dodge a few scuba divers towards the end of the swim but that is just part of the Blue Lake experience! After my swim today my arms and shoulders are TIRED!

Mondays are going to be my new day off. That's not setting well with me--I'm used to getting a good workout before school, and taking Saturday off, but I now need Saturdays for long run and Sundays for long bike and swim. I just have to go with the new training schedule, change is tough but necessary! Plus it will be good to have one day a week to stay completely out of my workout room.

The rest of the day is mine! Baking cookies and writing out Christmas cards!
Yep, that's snow!  It was AWESOME!

Just Keep Swimmin'!

Tomorrow kicks off my 20 week training plan for IM St. George 70.3!  I'm so excited to start training but I know what a long road I have ahead of me.  The hardest part will be the Sunday swims out at Blue Lake--the air temps are so cold, getting in and out of the water is awful, but I have to do what I have to do.  I'm starting my training off at Kearns Aquatic Center with private swim lessons at 7:30am Saturday morning.  I've improved my running and cycling fitness, so now it's time to focus on the swim.  I'm pretty sure I can be a lot 'less slow'--not sure how fast I can become--but with learning proper technique I know I will improve.  Then Sunday out to Blue Lake to swim, swim, swim!

12.11.13 Figuring it out!

I have never kept a blog before so this is all new to me!  I am going to spend the few days trying to figure out all the options and settings!
